New features VRM, Intersolar 2022 and more

Please note that Victron Energy will be closed on Monday April 18th for Easter

Victron Remote Management has been updated with some great new feature; controls on the dashboard and dark mode - check them out.
Let's meet at the Intersolar Europe 2022 in Munich so we can show you our latest products.
There are several blog posts for you. We start off with Spanish gold for our Dutch sailors, what an achievement!  There is a blog post about speedway competitors touring in style, one about a Slovenian student’s contribution to an off-grid power source. One about being powered up for summer, one about a temperature-controlled chicken farm, one about selling ice for fishermen to conserve the quality of their catch. Read about the USA Training Tour Finale, and finally one about installing an Energy Storage System (ESS) in a large house in Mexico.
And as usual we have our list of updated documentation, certificates, training, webinars, and events.

New VRM features: controls on the dashboard and Dark mode

One of the new features in VRM is that you can now remotely control ESS - you can set the mode, for example you can choose preferences such as keeping batteries charged, or optimising the ESS, as well as setting a minimum batter SoC level.

Also the manual Inverter/Charger settings  'on'/'off'/ and 'charger only' can now be selected remotely, and you can reset an input current limit ...plus more. For more information see the documentation:

You'll notice that another cool enhancement is the Dark Mode theme. More details here:

Correction of our last newsletter

Unfortunately, we made a mistake in our last Newsletter from April 13, 2022.

We announced the new Inverter/Charger controls feature via the VRM dashboard. However that feature was removed shortly after launching it. It is too risky in its current form. The system could be switched off unintentionally too easily.

But that doesn't mean that we're shelving the Multi controls feature. We will make further considerations that take security more into account and release Multi controls with appropriate modifications.

Also please note that this does not affect the other two new controls: ESS Control and GX Relays via the VRM dashboard. This continues to work.

Our apologies for the inconvenience.

Solar Power regulates a Hydroelectric generator

Slovenian Student's work contributes to the real world.

A 400kW hydroelectric plant near the Slovenian/Italian border had been running inefficiently for years until a third year electrical student decided to put it right as part of his coursework. The problem was that the signalling apparatus had long since stopped operating because of numerous cabling problems along the route.
Aleks Žvikart – who is also an intern at Victron installer Elektro Štumpfl – decided to design and build an off-grid power source at the remote headwater so that levels could be monitored remotely.

Chicken Farming with Solar Energy

High-Welfare. Low-Carbon. Off-Grid
A Spanish farmer – Casa Nilo SL – has invested 4 million euros establishing the largest privately-owned chicken barn in the Catalonian province of Lleida. Situated in Arbeca, 40,000 breeding birds, and 4,000 roosters are free to roam the floor of a temperature controlled rearing shed, powered by solar energy.

Solar Energy Ice Plant

Fiji’s fishermen chilling the catch
The Government-owned Ice Plant has been operational for four months selling ice to local fishermen, to allow them to conserve the quality of their catch, which they can then sell for a premium on the mainland. In the past compressors were run by a diesel generator – fuel for which was expensive; difficult to transport; maintenance costs were high and not very green. The new plant is silent...

No whine in the cellar?

Energy Storage keeps pumps operational
The owner of a large house in San Pedro Garza Garcia, Mexico, always regretted that the 40kWp grid-feed solar array he had installed at his property was not able to provide power to his home when the grid failed.
That limitation almost proved catastrophic. One evening, during a rainstorm, the grid power also failed… It was time to make a new arrangement. Seeing advertisements from Victron Installer Evotech he got in touch with them to learn about Energy Storage Systems (ESS).
