VictronConnect v5.13 released

End of October, a new version of VictronConnect was released. The most important changes are:

  • All VE.Bus firmware updated to latest versions (465 for most, and 466 for the MultiPlus-II)
  • New Solar Charger firmware; which fixes a bug in the temperature derating.
  • New BMV-712 firmware: which fixes the alarm buzzer beeping at an inaudible frequency
  • New Blue Smart Charger firmware: adds the long wished-for BLE on/off function. Note that for the IP67 chargers, which does not have any push button or other input to restore the bluetooth function in case required; the off function is not a complete off yet. A full kill switch for that model is still coming; expected later this year.
  • Improves how VE.Smart Network information is presented

and many more changes. read the change log.

Off-Grid living, working & educating at Lackan Cottage Farm

County Down, Northern Ireland

A guest blog by Steve Golemboski-Byrne whom we met in a blog in 2015 in which he told us about their family lifestyle. Things have certainly moved on and Steve is even more of a Victron Energy aficionado. His product knowledge, and his practical expertise has extended so much that he now run courses for other off-gridders from all over the world.

3-Phase in the Outback?

Cattle and Sheep stations in Australia’s remote outback are typically powered by diesel generators. MyEnergy Engineering recently completed three projects powering huge cattle and sheep stations in remote locations in South Australia which demonstrate how stations can be run cleanly and silently.

Yachtsman sails over plastic ocean

Back in 1986, solo Australian yachtsman Jon Sanders began a non-stop voyage three times around the world. During his voyages he noticed a lot of changes in the ocean: one of them being plastic bags floating far out to sea. He was asked to help making a survey about the presence of microplastics in the ocean.
At Victron Energy, reliable, renewable power lies at the heart of everything we do …so we were delighted to be asked to play a small role in Jon’s historic data-collecting voyage by donating the equipment.

Nanogrid TOGO

SOLERGIE is changing lives for the better in the West African country of Togo.
Because of their huge land area, 75% of the population of West African countries live beyond the reach of the national electricity grid and have no access to a dependable source of electricity. Solergie plans to install the infrastructure – in the form of nano grids – which provides people living in rural locations with the clean, reliable electricity they need to empower themselves. It changes everything – and has an impact which most of us can only imagine.

Bass Fishing and Boat Electronics

Bass fishing – the exciting, fast-growing sport which blends traditional techniques with electronic technology – has mostly been taken up by men …but South African national Leandri Language plans to rock the boat.
She has just taken delivery of a fully equipped Bass Fishing boat. Power for all Leandri’s equipment comes from a single 125Ah Super cycle AGM battery. Her 24V electric outboard motor is powered, separately, by two 60Ah Super AGM’s wired in series.
Let’s see how these dissimilar battery banks can be charged conveniently…

Cape Town International Boat Show & the Great Optimist Race

The Cape Town International Boat Show 2019 took place  between Friday 18th and Sunday 20th October. The annual event is South Africa’s premier boating and luxury lifestyle show, held at the V&A Waterfront.
In addition to a great display of Victron products - and professionals on hand to answer questions - the Great Optimist Race returned for a second year after its successful inaugural event was staged in 2018.
