The new Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Chargers

The new Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger is designed for use in dual battery systems in vehicles or boats, where the (smart) alternator and the start battery are used to charge the service battery. The model range is suitable for 12V or 24V systems, and both lead acid and lithium batteries.

Careful - Alternator Charging Lithium

Charging lithium batteries from an alternator, be that in a boat or vehicle, presents some challenges when compared to the straightforward nature of charging lead based batteries.

The video in this blog highlights these lithium challenges and shows you what can happen when things go wrong – namely alternator overheating, smoke and an expensive alternator replacement, not to mention the risk of a battery thermal event.

Planning a transatlantic family adventure

Jonas Edholm, his wife Susanna, and their children Axel (11), Alma (8), and Atle (6) are planning to sail across the Atlantic in a 12 metre yacht next year.
Their journey will begin next July, commencing Stockholm, and will take them through the English Channel, Bay of Biscay and out to the Canary Islands, before crossing the Atlantic to spend the winter in the Caribbean.
Jonas – who works in IT and computer science – has been taking a great interest in the electrical set-up of their boat.

Powering economies in Rural India - Mlinda

Mlinda is an initiative which supports marginalised communities living in rural India to achieve sustainable village economies.
They do this by installing solar mini-grids for industry; by assisting local entrepreneurs to purchase modern efficient electric machinery; and by encouraging a diversity of business-types – so that communities have a broad spectrum of employment opportunities, and work is not seasonal.
