Product news this week: the new VE.Can SmartSolar MPPTs are in stock and shipping, and there is an introduction blog post for them. The MultiPlus-II 48/3000, 48/3000-GX and the 48/5000 have been certified to the German VDE 4105:2018 standard. And lastly, the EasySolar-II GX is now listed on our website, including datasheet and manual.
Then there is a nice video featuring a solar powered cabin that we recommend watching and sharing; we catch up with our World Champion preparing for the Olympics. There is a blogpost showing a large off-grid system in the Serengeti desert and another blog post, showing a 3-phase off-grid system on Fiji, powering an iced-cream factory.
SmartSolar MPPTs with VE.Can are shipping
Building on Victron’s comprehensive range of Solar Charge Controllers, we announce new models with VE.Can connectivity. These currently include the SmartSolar MPPT 150/70 & 150/100 VE.Can with auto-select voltage for systems of 12, 24, 36 and 48 Volts. More models will follow.
These new MPPTs replace the BlueSolar MPPT 150/70 & 150/85 CAN-bus generation.
We recommend to use these chargers in designs that have multiple charge controllers. Compared to the VE.Direct models these will result in much cleaner communications wiring. More details in the blogpost.

NICE TO KNOW
Student’s sustainable design awarded second place
An international team of students from TU Delft – a Dutch university – has gained second place in a European competition to design and build sustainable housing. Student Lawrence Liu was very interested in the Victron capability of integrating DC circuits at different voltage levels through a single DC distribution system.
Olympic sailors discover source of Sushi
World Champion sailors Annemiek Bekkering and Annette Duetz take a break from the waters off Enoshima to discover Sushi.
The 2020 Olympics don’t take place for twelve months – yet such is the professional determination of the team that they plan to spend a lot of time at the Olympic location between now and next year – getting to know the water; the weather; and the topography.
Serengeti Off-Grid Solar Saviours
Sometimes a project is too large, complex or geographically remote for one company to complete on their own.
It takes cooperation to achieve the desired outcome; as was the case with Lahia Lodge and their large off-grid solar/battery system, in Tanzania’s fabulous Serengeti national park.
Fijian organic Iced-Cream: 3-phase off-grid
A remote part of the island of Fiji with no access to grid electricity may not sound like an ideal location for a business.
However, German national Robert Glowatzki and his Italian wife Lucilla Chiericati have set up a factory to make organic iced cream – using exotic fruits like Soursop, Passionfruit and Vudi. They decided to ‘go green’, installing a 3-phase solar power plant with Victron products to run the factory.
